Our First Event: Making Bouquets at Mount Sinai

Inpatient Rehabilitation Department — Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach

Our very first event happened at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in their inpatient rehabilitation department. That's where patients stay while they recover and work on getting their strength and movement back after things like strokes, surgeries, and serious injuries.

We showed up with rescued flowers, vases, and everything else you need to make a bouquet. Then the patients took over. Working alongside their physical therapists, they picked out their flowers, trimmed the stems, and arranged everything exactly how they wanted.

I was surprised to learn that bouquet-making is actually really good therapy. Gripping the shears, cutting each stem to the right length, placing every flower carefully into the vase is exactly the kind of fine motor work, focus, and coordination that rehab patients practice every day.
