Every Sunday, the Green Haven Project hands out free food in Overtown. This Sunday, we joined them with bouquets and learned that flowers matter more than we thought.

About the event
Rescued Food, Rescued Flowers: A Sunday with the Green Haven Project
Green Haven Project — Overtown, Miami
Every Sunday in Overtown, the Green Haven Project does something amazing. They collect food from grocery stores that's about to expire, perfectly good food that would otherwise get thrown away and combine it with fresh produce they grow themselves in their community gardens. Then they give all of it, completely free, to people in the neighborhood who need it.
They rescue food the same way we rescue flowers. When we found out about them, partnering felt obvious. So, one Sunday, we showed up alongside their food distribution with buckets of rescued bouquets.
Honestly, I wasn't sure this event made sense. When people are lining up for groceries, does anyone really care about flowers? It felt like flowers might be the last thing on anyone's mind.
I was completely wrong.
